Many people discuss how difficult it is to find a job after you graduate; however, no one really talks about how hard it is to get a job while you’re still in college.

1. Employers may not take you seriously.

Many employers will not or do not like hiring undergraduate students for positions. When applying to retail or restaurant job positions, younger people not attending college may have an advantage over those who are because they may be more committed, have a wider availability and will potentially stay in that job position longer.
This can be frustrating for college students since of course we want the highest paying job we can find, along with gaining experience; however, we are sometimes unable to get hired because of our commitment to education.
Applying to higher qualified jobs can be another issue students can face while still in college. Some companies want their employees to be fully educated with a degree, or they will not take you seriously. They rather hire graduates with degrees and/or prior experience.

2. Finding flexibility is tough.

Many employers also have an issue with the availability of most college students. Considering a normal semester for an undergraduate contains of taking four to five courses, it can be problematic to find the free time to work or do anything not school related.
If an undergraduate student actually does find a satisfying job, they may have to sacrifice their study time or even class time in order to keep up with the workload and hours. After all, college is a full-time job in itself, between attending classes, writing papers and studying for exams.

3. Earning experience and decent pay.

Many college students are basically forced to partake in unpaid internships in order to get experience for their potential career. Sometimes the jobs that would help college students get more experience in the field they are interested working in only offer undergraduate student intern positions. This can also be a frustrating factor of wanting or having to work while earning your degree.
There are many struggles that undergraduate students face, especially when it comes to employment. Sometimes we just have to take what we can get until we earn our degree and can be 100 percent committed, focused and educated in a specific career field.
However, the disappointing fact is that this setback can possibly delay a college student’s education and future livelihood.
